During this trying time, Anshe Emet Music Center is committed to supporting and lifting up the voices of Israeli musicians whose livelihood has been directly affected by the war in Israel. Thanks to a generous anonymous donor, we are proud to present Elana Rozenfeld and the Jazzukah Project, in concert on Wednesday, December 13, at 7PM on our livestream page.
Join us as we celebrate the music of Chanukah like you’ve never heard it before and stay for a short Q&A with these incredible Israeli musicians. On this festival of lights, we join together to bring more light, love, and music into the world. Chag Sameach! The Jazzukkah Project is an ensemble of Israeli artists that is creating the ultimate holiday playlist. We are imagining songs like Maoz Tzur as a slow jam, giving I Have A Little Dreidle a much needed bepop hop and penning one or two original pieces. In this vein, we recorded 10 songs looking to upgrade and update the beloved canon of holiday songs: Some in English, some Hebrew and some instrumental. We gave each a different flavor and look forward to sharing with the wider world our unique Jewish sound for this holiday of lights. Elana Rozenfeld is a cantor, performer, songwriter and theatre artist, who grew up steeped in musical theatre, jazz, chazzanut (traditional cantorial singing) and Yeshiva music, while also having a secret love of all things Sephardic. After receiving her BFA at the Tisch School of the Arts in NYU, focusing on solo performance, she entered the HL Miller Cantorial School at JTS to develop mastery of her Jewish musical traditions. Since then, she has served as cantor at Park Avenue Synagogue in NYC and Congregation Shirat Hayam in Swampscott, MA. Elana also served as the interim director of the School for Jewish Music at Hebrew College in Newton, MA. Today, Elana lives in Kiryat Tivon, Israel, with her husband and three children, teaching contemporary voice and bone mitzvah, performing, and songwriting.
