Anshe Emet’s Youth Groups are a great way to find opportunities for social action, Israel education, religious and social activities.

All are welcome! As always, you do not need to be a member of Anshe Emet to be a part of our youth programs and activities.

We offer Youth Groups for the following ages:

Shachar • SK-2nd Grade

Shachar, meaning dawn in Hebrew, is our first introduction to experiential youth programming here at Anshe Emet. Shachar is designed to allow our young members to explore Judaism with their peers through exciting activities that they are not doing in religious or day schools. We meet several times throughout the year to introduce these Shachar participants to what it is a youth group does.

Machar • 3rd-5th Grade

Machar means tomorrow in Hebrew, and we see them as the future of older youth groups. Machar meets monthly to have a taste of what it will be like in Kadima and even in USY. Machar’s famous programs include Challah baking, tie-dying, under-night in the synagogue and their Chocolate Seder.

Gesher • 6th-8th Grade

Our Gesher chapter is part of the Chicago Region of Kadima/USY- through United Synagoge known as CHUSY.  not only has monthly programming in and out of the building, but also overnighters and their own weekend long convention in December through CHUSY Region. 8th Graders are invited to start participating in USY in January of their 8th grade year.

USY/SHMUSY • 9th-12th Grade

The USY chapter at Anshe Emet is called SHMUSY. We are the only USY chapter in the city of Chicago. SHMUSY is open to all Jewish 9th-12th Graders. We have programmed lounge nights twice a month on Tuesday, and once a month a weekend program. Our programs range from social dessert hops around the city, to social action programs like volunteering with Night Ministry.

SHMUSY is one of the top fundraising ch

apters in the region raising over $5,000 for Tikun Olam (USY’s Tzedekah Fund). Our USYers also participate in CHUSY Regional programs and conventions. In addition to our regular USY programs our teens also have the opportunity to pray and learn together with monthly Teen Shabbat programming.

SHMUSY has strong chapter participation at all of the regional conventions and USY’s International Convention. We also encourage our USYers to participate in USY summer programs to Israel and across the US.

SHMUSY is committed to its social action, Israel education and Jewish programming. Our programs are planned by our fantastic USY board members who work hard on creating fun and exciting events for their peers.
