7:00 pm - 8:15 pm

Pre-Shavuot Beit Midrash: Torah About Love – Our rabbis imagine the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai as a wedding between two lovers, God and the people of Israel. In the lead up to Shavuot and to Rabbi Shai Held’s visit to Anshe Emet Synagogue on June 8-9 to present his new book Judaism is About Love, join Rabbi Goldie Guy (Hadar Chicago) and Rabbi Benjy Forester (Anshe Emet Synagogue) for a four-part series exploring the theme of love. How is love instrumental in teachings about receiving and learning Torah? How do the Torah and the rabbis understand the role of love in our relationships with God and our fellow human beings? We will study in the style of the beit midrash: we’ll start with an introduction, break out into hevruta, and then return to a full group discussion. Sources will be provided in Hebrew with English translations. All are welcome, and there’s no background necessary!

Program dates are May 1, 15, 22 & 29
