Join us for a remarkable evening as we welcome Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Bret Stephens to speak on: “If Not Now, When?” In a thought-provoking dialogue with Rabbi Michael Siegel, Mr. Stephens will explore timely issues of leadership, responsibility, and the Jewish voice in today’s world.
Bret Stephens:
In addition to his work at the New York Times, Bret Stephens serves as Editor-in-Chief of Sapir—a Jewish quarterly published by the Maimonides Fund which offers ideas for a thriving Jewish future. Previously, he was Editor-in-Chief of The Jerusalem Post. Bret is the recipient of numerous awards and distinctions, including three honorary doctorates and the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. In 2022, the government of Russia banned him for life from visiting that country. He sits on numerous academic advisory boards and was a co-Founder of the Renew Democracy Initiative—an organization dedicated to advancing democratic principles throughout the world.

Join Rabbi Siegel as he speaks with Sarah Hurwitz on her new book in which she wrestles with what it means to be Jewish at a time of rising antisemitism. Following the program there will be a dessert reception with a book purchasing and signing opportunity.
Sarah Hurwitz:
Sarah Hurwitz was a White House speechwriter from 2009 to 2017, starting out as a senior speechwriter for President Barack Obama and then serving as chief speechwriter for First Lady Michelle Obama. Sarah worked with Mrs. Obama to craft widely-acclaimed addresses—including her 2008, 2012, and 2016 Democratic National Convention speeches—and traveled with the First Lady across America and to five continents. Sarah is also the author of Here All Along: Finding Meaning, Spirituality, and a Deeper Connection to Life—in Judaism (After Finally Choosing to Look There), which was a finalist for two National Jewish Book Awards and for the Sami Rohr Prize for Jewish Literature.

Rabbi David Wolpe:
Named The Most Influential Rabbi in America by Newsweek and one of the 50 Most Influential Jews in the World by The
Jerusalem Post, and twice named one of the 500 Most Influential People in Los Angeles by the Los Angeles Business Journal, David Wolpe is the Max Webb Emeritus Rabbi of Sinai Temple. He currently serves as a scholar in residence at the Maimonides Fund. Rabbi Wolpe has taught at Harvard, the Jewish Theological Seminary, the American Jewish University, Hunter College, and UCLA. Rabbi Wolpe is the author of eight books, including the national best seller Making Loss Matter: Creating Meaning in Difficult Times (Riverhead). His latest is titled David, the Divided Heart (Yale U Press).

Program Description:
Join us for Shabbat Services followed by a very special Shabbat dinner with Ted Deutch.
Ted Deutch:
Ted, a lifelong Jewish and pro-Israel activist, assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer, Edward and Sandra Meyer Office of the CEO at American Jewish Committee (AJC) on October 1, 2022. He joined AJC following more than 12 years of service in the United States House of Representatives, representing Broward and Palm Beach Counties in Florida. Ted has long championed the priorities of the Jewish community, from his summers at Camp Ramah to his Israel activism at the University of Michigan and Michigan Law School, where he chaired the Hillel Governing Board.
