We’ll begin with a lecture followed by two seminar style sessions on subsequent evenings.
The lecture is free to all AES members; seminars are $15 for each session ($30 total). Attend one, two, or all three in person or on Zoom!
Our instructor is Dr. Claire E. Sufrin, Senior Editor at the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America, and editor of Sources: A Journal of Jewish Ideas. A scholar of modern Jewish thought, Claire is a widely-respected educator who has written and taught about religion and gender for many years.
On April 3, Dr. Sufrin will offer an overview of Jewish feminism and some of the most significant effects it’s had on Judaism over the last 50 years. The talk will be 40 minutes in length followed by Q&A.
The next two sessions will offer a deeper dive into topics covered in the lecture. Dr. Sufrin will lead participants through a closer look at Jewish feminist writings and what it means to “read as a feminist” through chavruta-style learning and group discussion. One session will focus on Torah texts and the other on Jewish liturgy.
