The Book of Job: Bad Things that Happened to the Original Good Guy Theodicy and Its Relevance to Jewish Belief

Led by Rabbi Marianne Novak, we will study the Book of Job (Iyov) and its
classic questions of how we understand our relationship to God and God’s justice.

Rabbi Marianne Novak has served as Endowment Director at the Jewish Federation of St. Louis and also helped start the Women’s Tefillah Group at Bais Abraham.

Feb 11 | Session I: Good Guy vs Bad Guy 
We will explore The Book of Job’s role in the canon and Jewish theology, his life and the basic structure of the book.

Feb 18 | Session II: With Friends Like These….!

We will look at the speeches from Job’s friends from a practical and theological point of view.

Feb 25 | Session III:  Who do you think you are Job?
We will examine Elihu and God’s response to Job and his friends. We will conclude be exploring the lessons Job has for us today.
