Cantor Rachel Brook and the Anshe Emet Music Team are proud to present the 22nd Annual Dr. Arnold H. Kaplan Concert, featuring Uniting Voices Chicago (formerly Chicago Children’s Chorus).
Founded in 1956 by Rev. Christopher Moore as the Children’s Chorus of the First Unitarian Church of Chicago in direct response to the Civil Rights Movement, Uniting Voices Chicago (formerly Chicago Children’s Choir) is rooted in the belief that music is a vehicle for fostering empathy and respect between young people of all races, ethnicities, socioeconomic backgrounds, religions, gender identities, and sexual orientations.
Featuring a delightful program of contemporary pop, world music, classical compositions, songs of the season, and timeless Jewish favorites, combined with world-class choreography, Uniting Voices Chicago will bring their incredible talents to the Anshe Emet stage. The concert will also feature the voices of Anshe Emet Youth alongside Cantor Brook.
This concert is intended for all ages and will be a true celebration of unity and community during the holiday season
Join us for a festive COMMUNITY LUNCH at 12PM, followed by the concert at 1PM.

Net proceeds from the Kaplan Concert will fund the Anshe Emet Scholarship Fund which helps defray the cost of religious school tuition and fees of our youth programs, as well as offering Scholarships to Jewish Summer Camps and Israel Experience Programs. As our clergy so meaningfully contextualized during the High Holy Days, now more than ever, we know how essential it is to bring Jewish programming, education and community to support and uplift our children and families. We hope that this year you will consider joining us in support of this important and beautiful musical celebration—a true light in dark times.
Financial concerns should never be a barrier to attending programming at Anshe Emet. Please contact Mimi Weisberg at mweisberg@ansheemet.org if you wish to discuss financial assistance to attend this years Kaplan Concert.
Parking in the Anshe Emet Lot is reserved for sponsors and those with handicap placards.
Dr. Kaplan was a trauma surgeon in the Korean War and a general surgeon at Thorek Hospital and Medical Center for 26 years. Dr. Kaplan graduated from medical school at the University of Illinois in 1949 and did his residency at Cook County Hospital. After enlisting in the Army, he spent three years treating soldiers hurt in the Korean War. Afterward, Dr. Kaplan practiced at several hospitals, including Bethany, before accepting a position at Thorek in 1975. Frank Solare, President and Chief Executive of Thorek, called Dr. Kaplan a tireless physician who worked seven days a week. “He had a mass of patients probably greater than any physician that I’ve met in my life,” Solare said.
Dr. Kaplan was a prominent member of Anshe Emet Synagogue and loved the musical legacy that began with Cantor Moses J. Silverman followed by Hazzan Alberto Mizrahi. The Synagogue is very grateful for Dr. Kaplan’s devotion and the special legacy which endows Senior Cantor Rachel Brook’s position.
