SUMMARY:Sisterhood Book Club
DESCRIPTION:The Sisterhood Book Club has been meeting with Sisterhood membe
rs since 2002 and always welcomes new members. \nThe group gathers in-pers
on at the synagogue in the fall\, and via Zoom in the winter. Our long-tim
 e facilitator\, Rachel Jacobsohn\, adds a level of depth\, historically re
levant information\, and the connective force that leads to interesting an
d informative discussions.\n\nOur next book will be: This is Not About Us
by Allegra Goodman.\n\n2027 dates to be determined.\n\nContact Judy Metzg
er at Hgmet1@aol.com to learn more. \n\n\n\nAbout the book: \n\nWas this
just a brief skirmish\, or the beginning of a thirty-year feud? In the Ru
binstein family\, it could go either way.\n\nWhen their beloved sister pas
ses away\, Sylvia and Helen Rubinstein are unmoored. A misunderstanding ab
out apple cake turns into a decade of stubborn silence. Busy with their ow
 n lives—divorces\, dating\, career setbacks\, college applications\, bat
mitzvahs and ballet recitals—their children do not want to get involved
. As for their grandchildren? Impossible.\n\nWith This Is Not About Us\, m
aster storyteller Allegra Goodman—whose prior collection was heralded as
“one of the most astute and engaging books about American family life
” (The Boston Globe)—returns to the form and subject that endeared her
to legions of readers. Sharply observed and laced with humor\, This Is No
t About Us is a story of growing up and growing old\, the weight of parent
al expectations\, and the complex connection between sisters—a big-heart
ed book about the love that binds a family across generations.
