From 2016 to 2020 he was the paper's Washington correspondent\, covering the White House\, Congres s and the U.S. Jewish community. Amir's writing on Israel and the Middle E ast has appeared in The Atlantic\, the New Yorker\, Foreign Affairs and ot her leading U.S. publications. His first book\, a biography of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas\, came out in 2017. Amir currently lives in Kibbu tz Nahal Oz\, the closest place in Israel to Gaza\, with his wife and daug hter.\n\nThair Abu Ras is a PhD Candidate at the department of Government and Politics at the University of Maryland and a fellow at the Gildenhorn institute for Israel studies at the University of Maryland. Thair holds a Master's degree from the University of Houston and a bachelor's degree fro m the University of Haifa.
