When the Dobbs decision passed last year, the number of women traveling from other states to Illinois for reproductive health care spiked exponentially, from 7% to over 25%. Patients came from 35 states, often traveling long distances, to get the medical care they needed. Now, a year after Roe v. Wade was overturned, a woman’s right to choose remains precarious. Fortunately, Illinois continues to serve as a haven for many.Sisterhood has volunteered to participate in NCJW’s Comfort Care Kit Project Kits contain a dozen or so essential items for women who visit Illinois Planned Parenthood clinics. By all accounts, patients truly appreciate this kind gesture.
Here is an opportunity for you to step up and take a stand in support of these women. AESWe need your help! The Sisterhood will assemble 250 Comfort Care Kits to be delivered to Planned Parenthood clinics over the summer. We will meet at the synagogue on Tuesday, June 27 at 7PM to assemble the kits and receive an update about reproductive rights. This is a follow-up to our program earlier this spring with Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton about reproductive choice. Our Sisterhood has made reproductive choice a priority for our activities. Of course, the event is free, but registration is required.
We also welcome monetary donations to purchase inventory for the kits. Each kit we assemble will cost about $5. Your donation in a multiple of $5 will help underwrite the expense.
Donations can be sent via Zelle to AESsisterhood@gmail.com or checks payable to “Anshe Emet Sisterhood” can be sent c/o Marla Gordon, 2652 N Dayton, Chicago 60614.
