Thursday, November 30 | 7:00pm | Anshe Emet
A Film by Yari & Cary Wolinsky

Inspired by the greatest wooden synagogue architecture of 18th century Poland artists, Rick and Laura Brown of the Handshouse Studio, began a 10 year pursuit to reconstruct a replica of the elaborate roof and mural ceiling of the Gwozdziec synagogue.  They led a group of over 300 students and professionals from 16 countries, using period hand tools and techniques, to reconstruct a lost synagogue and recover a lost world.  The Gwozdziec roof was unveiled in 2014 as the centerpiece of the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw.

We will be joined for a discussion by Rachel Ellison, one of the Chicago artisans who worked on the project.
