Anshe Emet Synagogue cordially invites you to attend our JUF Dessert Reception on behalf of the 2014 Jewish United Fund Annual Campaign!
The guest speaker for the evening will be Ari Shavit, author of My Promised Land: The Triumph and Tragedy of Israel, which has been rated of the the 10 best books of 2013 by the New York Times and one of the 100 most important books of the year by The Economist.
My Promised Land tells the story of Israel through the life stories of various individuals. It opens with Shavit's great-grandfather arriving in the Land of Israel in 1897 and ends with the 2013 election and the Iranian crisis.
Ari Shavit is a leading Israeli columnist and writer and is well known for his in-depth interviews and thought provoking articles. Among the leading figures with whom he had unique conversations are Shimon Peres, Ariel Sharon, Benjamin Netanyahu, Ehud Barak, Amos Oz, and David Grossman. In recent years, his voice has become one of the most powerful and influential voices in Israel's public arena. his unique writing, which challenges the dogmas of both right and left, has made him one of the leading political thinkers of the Jewish state.
