Cummings Lecture Series presents a weekend with Dr. Lawrence Hoffman
"Liturgy and the American Jewish Story"
May 23-25, 2008

Please save the date of Shabbat May 23-25th as we welcome Rabbi Lawrence Hoffman as the scholar in residence. Dr. Hoffman is the Barbara and Stephen Friedman Professor of Liturgy, Worship, and Ritual and Director of the Synagogue 2000 Initiative for synagogue spirituality at HUC-JIR, New York.

Dr. Hoffman will teach our community on Friday, May 23rd following our 6:00 p.m. Kesher service on the topic, "How We Pray is Who We Are: This is Your Life, American Jewry." Following our kiddush lunch and Mincha service (roughly 1:30 p.m.) on Saturday, May 24th Dr. Hoffman will teach on the topic, "Liturgy and the Search for God: Looking for God in Chicago, Illinois."  Dr. Hoffman's final lecture will be Sunday, May 25th at 10:00 a.m. on the topic, "The Haggadah and the American Jewish Experience: Maxwell House and Other Seders We Have Known."

Book Club Discussion: A Tale of Love and Darkness by Amos Oz
Tuesday, May 20th at 6:00 p.m.

Please join us for the second of three opportunities to study past and present classics with
Rabbi Elliot Cosgrove! The three books we will/have read are centered on the themes of,
