Attendance Information
If your child will be absent from Religious School, please contact the Education Office at (773) 868-5131 before the start of school that day. Attendance will be taken at each class session. If a student misses a class, he/she will be expected to complete make-up assignments through contacting a fellow student or the teacher. A minimum of 80% attendance of classes is required in order to progress to the next grade level. Early summer make-up assignments due by mid-June are given for students who do not fulfill the attendance requirements, but who wish to advance to the next grade level.
Pick-up and Drop-off Procedures
We strongly encourage carpooling, as the parking lot is sometimes filled due to additional synagogue programs.
On Thursdays, between 3:30 pm and 4:05 pm, students should be dropped off at our Pine Grove entrance. A security guard will be present during those times. Late arrivals must enter through the parking lot doors. Pick-up will be at 6:00 pm in the parking lot.
We encourage parents to come into the building for drop-off or pick-up, or study, but please do not leave your car illegally parked while you are in the building! The children will be dismissed from their classrooms and accompanied outside if an adult does not come to the classroom. We will bring your students to your car if you are waiting in it. In order to keep our children safe, you must observe the following rules:
Obey the entrance and exit signs in the parking lot.
Park in designated spaces only and do NOT park in reserved spaces or in the aisles.
If the lot is full, please find alternate parking or stay in your car and wait for your child to be escorted to you.
Early Dismissal
If your child needs to leave early, we will need a written note. YOU MUST GO TO YOUR CHILD’S CLASSROOM TO PICK UP YOUR STUDENT. No child will be allowed to wait alone downstairs or in the parking lot. This is a safety issue.
Snacks
Pop, chips, and candy are sold on Thursdays from 3:30 - 4:00 pm in room 100 on the first floor. If your children bring snacks with them, remember that the snacks must be kosher and have a heksher (kosher certification) printed on the package. Snacks should be consumed before coming up to the classrooms. Challah and grape juice are offered as a curricular snack during class sessions on Thursdays and for the primary grades on Sundays. There are different snacks provided for 3rd through 7th grades on Sunday.
Attire
Students should dress in a manner that reflects self-respect and respect for the synagogue. Males are required to wear kippot; females are encouraged to do the same. Baseball caps or other sports hats are not to be worn during school hours in the building and do not replace kippot. For Shabbat Youth Services, appropriate synagogue clothing is slacks and shirts for boys, and dresses, blouses and skirts or slacks for girls.
Shalom Bayit
We are all members of the Anshe Emet family and the building is our home; it is ours to use and must be respected. Anyone who causes damage will be held responsible and be expected to provide compensation or replacement.
Visitors
Parents are welcome to visit the class, school and synagogue at any time. Please call or stop by the Education Office so we know that you are in the building and can help you locate your child’s class. Child visitors are also welcome, but arrangements must be made in advance with the teacher. We will need written consent from the visiting child’s parent or guardian and an emergency phone number for the visitor. If someone other than the parent or guardian will pick up the student, we need advance written notification. If your child is being picked up in a location other than the parking lot, we will also need written notification.
