Action Steps
Action Steps
The JBC Action Steps are your guide to living a Jewish life. The curriculum is
customized to your schedule. If you started in June, then month 1 is June,
month 2 is July, etc. Each person in the program will be living different
action steps depending on when they started. This differs from the class
syllabus in which everyone in the program is learning the same thing at the
same time. While the majority of the material will be covered in a classroom
setting, the timing may not fit perfectly with your customized calendar so
self-study references are provided to assist you with incorporating these
action steps into your life.
These action steps are designed to build on one another. For example, in month 1 you will stop eating pork products and in month 2 you will stop eating shellfish AND continue to not eat pork products. By the end of the year, you will be living all the action steps. These steps are an integral part of your spiritual journey to becoming Jewish. Guidance and resources will certainly be available for you along the way but, since spirituality is individual in nature, you are expected to be responsible for completing these action steps. This is an important component of the program, and thus all action steps are required.
As a reminder, attendance
at the year-long Jewish Heritage Class is required for the JBC Program. The
class is divided into trimesters – winter, spring, and fall. You must register
for each separately. The class covers the Biblical origins of Jewish beliefs
and values as well as Jewish history, ethics, life cycles and holidays, Jew hatred
and the Holocaust, Jewish texts and liturgy, Zionism and the State of Israel.
