Jews by Choice

Welcome

Exploring the issue of conversion is a serious undertaking. It is our hope that the information you find here can help you in your exploration. For more information, or to schedule an appointment to find out if our program is right for you, please contact Amanda Radman at (773) 868-5125.

Program Overview

Anshe Emet offers a comprehensive program for people who are considering conversion to Judaism. The Jews By Choice (JBC) program is designed to give you a strong foundation in Jewish learning (Torah), a welcoming entry into the Jewish Community (Israel) and a pathway to explore the sacred Jewish journey of your soul (God).

While we are located in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood, our JBC conversion program serves virtually the entire greater Chicago area. Anshe Emet is comprised of approximately 1,300 members, including singles and families. Among our members are many Jews By Choice who are active in synagogue life and serve on committees and on our Board of Trustees. Among our members are also a number of families in which one of the parents is Jewish and the other is not, but who, together, have decided to raise their children as Jews.

JBC program participants include people of all ages and backgrounds, intermarried couples (with and without children), couples who are engaged or contemplating marriage, and a growing number of singles who have decided to pursue the path to a Jewish life on their own.

Our program is both challenging and fulfilling. Some of our goals include introducing class participants to ways in which they can

~ become familiar with Jewish concepts and
values

~ create a Jewish environment in their
homes

~ become comfortable with Jewish holidays
and life cycle events

~ learn to worship as a part of the Jewish
community

Anshe Emet Synagogue seeks to encourage involvement and create a special sense of belonging. We are committed to meeting the religious, educational, social, and cultural needs of our members within the framework of the Conservative Movement. In keeping with the teachings of Judaism and the spirit of Klal Yisrael (the community of Israel), Anshe Emet recognizes its responsibility to serve the Jewish Community, the wider community, and the state of Israel.
