Hekhsher Tzedek is an effort by the Conservative Movement to ensure that the ethical norms of our tradition are applied to preparation of Kosher food. Kashrut is not simply a ritual matter, but must be a shining example of a holistic application of Torah. Hekhsher Tzedek concerns itself with the treatment of workers, environmental issues, and issues related to the care of the animals themselves. This course will examine the underpinnings of Jewish law as they apply to Hekhsher Tzedek.
