FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions)
WHAT IS THE ACCESSIBILITY FOR THE DISABLED?
Ramps are located at the entrances on Pine Grove Avenue, in the parking lot, and through the Hall of Memories. Lavatories are located in the Pine Grove lobby and across from the coatroom.
DO I NEED TO BRING A PRAYER BOOK?
The Mahzor Hadash, Enhanced Edition from Media Judiaca, will be provided for your use during the High Holy Days services. The Mahzorim are a generous gift from the family of Lawrence and Nancy Glick.
WHAT IS THE SECURITY LIKE?
Tickets are required for security and admission to services. No one will be admitted to Anshe Emet Synagogue without a valid 2008/5769 High Holy Days ticket. Security officers stationed at the entrances will ask everyone to show a ticket before allowing entry. You are urged to have your tickets ready to show to a security officer at each entrance. Please do not assume that the people at the door checking tickets will know or recognize you.
If you are attending services in the Sanctuary, you may enter through the Pine Grove or Broadway entrances. If you are attending services in the Blum Community Hall or Malkov Chapel, please enter through the Grace or Broadway entrances; please do not use the Pine Grove Avenue entrance.
Please keep your tickets with you at all times for quicker access. Please be patient with our staff. The entry process may require more time, but it is motivated solely by the need to protect your safety. Cooperative responses to any questions raised by security will assure your safety. If you notice any potential security breaches, please report them immediately to our High Holy Days desk located in Cummings Gallery or to the nearest security officer.
WHERE CAN I PARK?
On the High Holy Days, demand for parking exceeds our supply; therefore, the limited amount of parking in the Anshe Emet lot is only available to those with handicapped permits issued by the state. This space is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Reservations cannot be taken.
Shuttle bus service will be available from Waveland Park. Local parking lots may be an option based on availabilty. Additional parking information and shuttle bus service details will be printed in the monthly bulletin and on our web site.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GUEST TICKET AND RECIPROCITY?
If your guests are members in good standing at another synagogue, they are eligible for complimentary tickets in the Blum Community Hall. If your guests are not members of a synagogue, you may purchase tickets for them.
AT WHAT AGE DOES MY CHILD NEED A TICKET?
A CHILD is defined as being 17 years of age or younger. A ticket is issued for children six and older.
DO I ALWAYS HAVE TO SIT IN MY ASSIGNED ROOM?
During specified times, you do need to sit in your assigned room for capacity reasons as well as security. There are times, published on the back of your ticket, that you are able to sit in the venue of your choice (i.e., Erev Rosh Hashanah, second day Rosh Hashannah, and Yom Kippur afternoon). If you have any questions an usher or a member of the staff at Will Call
can assist you.
IS THERE A COAT CHECK?
We offer a professional coat check service free of charge during Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. The coat check is located off of the Malkov Chapel.
WHEN IS YIZKOR?
Yizkor is held on Yom Kippur in all three venues. You can find the schedule on the back of your tickets. Please note these times are approximate.
WHERE IS THE WILL CALL STATION LOCATED?
The Will Call station is located off the Grace Street entrance, next to the security desk. There will always be a staff member at the desk during the High Holy Days.
IS THERE MEDICAL ASSISTANCE ON SITE?
There is a nurse on-site during the High Holy Days at all times located in the Bennett Memorial Library. We also have a list of doctors in attendance who are on call.
HOW CAN I VOLUNTEER TO BE USHER?
Ushers are needed for the High Holy Days services to assure the smooth and timely flow of the proceedings and ease of access for those attending. Every year the veteran corps of ushers is joined by an enthusiastic new group to provide this exceptional and important service to the synagogue.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We will need a number of people to commit to a few hours to usher in Blum Community Hall and the Sanctuary. If you wish to offer your help, please contact us at (773) 868-5122.
