Description of High Holy Days Services
Tradition teaches that on Rosh Hashanah the Book of Life is written and on Yom Kippur it is sealed. This is our moment to approach God and survey our Jewish past and future as a community. The glorious music of our tradition combined with contemporary settings, deeply considered reflections and sermons by our Rabbis, and the power of unity with your fellow congregants allows our prayers to reach the heights of heaven itself.
Sanctuary — Traditional and esthetically rewarding, these services feature insightful, challenging lessons and offer the classic melodic nusach with the Anshe Emet professional choir.
Blum Community Hall — A communal service which enhances Anshe Emet’s haimish and warm atmosphere through seating in the round. The emphasis on singing, learning and sharing offers a comfortable High Holy Days experience for everyone.
Malkov Chapel — The Malkov Chapel service is guided by the lay leaders of the Young Adult Division and the Rose Crown Minyan. It is a participatory service where Jewish voices and souls reach to new heights.
Family Services — Family services are for everyone with children 18 months through 6th grade. This is a wonderful opportunity for families to come together to pray, sing and enjoy services.
Tashlich — On the first day of Rosh Hashanah, all are invited to join with the clergy to perform the ancient ceremony of Tashlich. This ceremony is derived from Micah 7:19, “You shall cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.” Please join us with your family and friends at the Clock Tower at Waveland Park. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a small supply of bread to cast into the water to symbolize the casting of our sins. After Tashlich, we will sing and dance in the spirit of the High Holy Days.
Yizkor — Yizkor is held on Yom Kippur in all three venues. You can find the approximate time on the back of your ticket. Please note that these times are approximate.
Netivot/Pathways — The Netivot/Pathways High Holidays Institute seeks to actualize inspiration, wonder, repair and truth for personal pathways to spiritual wisdom and the source of all life. Join Rabbi Heather Altman, yoga instructor and spiritual director, in creating sanctuary for your soul. All ticketholders are welcome to participate in any or all of the Netivot/Pathways components.
Although Netivot/Pathways services are free for Anshe Emet members, pre-registration is required. Please register by visiting http://conta.cc/OSFmxa. You will be turned away if you have not pre-registered. This service fills up quickly.
Attendance at High Holy Days services requires membership and tickets.
Ticket Information
Membership Ticket Policies — Tickets for High Holy Days services are included with all standard memberships. Tickets are non-transferable and are required to attend all services. Parents who would like to bring their children into services MUST have a ticket for each child age 13 and up. In the Sanctuary, all save children in-arm must have tickets.
No one will be admitted to Anshe Emet Synagogue without a valid 2012/5773 High Holy Days ticket. Security officers stationed at the entrances will ask everyone to show a ticket before allowing entry. Please keep your tickets with you at all times for quicker access. Please be aware there will be additional screening procedures in place. All persons and bags are subject to search so please leave unnecessary items at home. If you notice any security breaches, please report them immediately to the nearest security officer.
Congregants must attend the services in the venue indicated on their tickets in order to avoid confusion and overcrowding. The service schedule is printed on the back of your ticket for easy reference. Fellow congregants who volunteer as ushers have been instructed to allow entry into the services only at the appropriate time and with the appropriate color coded ticket.
Ticket Process — Your tickets wwere mailed to you in late August if you had no past due balance, provided at least a 50% dues payment for 2012/5773, or made other payment arrangements in advance. We are most appreciative of your willingness to put on your warm, feel-good smile and share the joy of reaching another year!
