The Gesher Program - Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah Program
The Gesher program is designed for adults who did not have the opportunity to celebrate becoming a Bat/Bar Mitzvah. It strives to increase their knowledge and participation in synagogue ritual and community. The Gesher program also seeks to bridge the distance between Jewish life and learning, so whether one is a Jew by Choice or a Jew by Birth who would like to take part in the Bar/Bat Mitzvah experience, Gesher offers something for everyone.
The Raymond Arbetman Center for Adult Jewish Learning and the Bridge Sisterhood of Anshe Emet have designed this program to help individuals reach their goals of:
- Reading Hebrew
- Chanting Haftarah and Torah trope
- Feeling at home with prayer services
- Studying the Torah/Haftarah portion for the week and writing a d’var Torah or Haftarah
- Building a strong foundation in Judaism through a curriculum of study in a supportive setting
Gesher is a one year curriculum that runs from October to June. For participants who are not able to read Hebrew, there is also a two year curriculum. The Gesher program culminates in a group Bat/Bar Mitzvah on Shabbat morning. The next Gesher B'nai mitzvah date will be June 23, 2012!!
