Synagogue Etiquette - Minhagei Hamakom

Please help us respect the sanctity of our Shabbat and Yom Tov (holiday) services by observing the following Synagogue Etiquette (Minhagei HaMakom):

While in the building and on the grounds:
ALL electronic devices including cell phones, iphones and pagers MUST be turned OFF.
Smoking is prohibited (at all times)
Writing and taking photographs are prohibited.

While in services:
 
Please minimize conversation.
Please treat your prayer book and Chumash (Bible) with respect. Do not place these sacred books on the floor.
Eating or drinking is not allowed.
Please dress appropriately-Shabbat is a special time which is defined by wearing nice clothes (business casual or more formal, not cocktail attire), with women’s shoulders covered.
All males are asked to wear a kippah (head covering). Women are encouraged to wear a kippah. 
During morning services, all Jewish males over Bar Mitzvah age are asked to wear a tallit (prayer shawl).  Women are encouraged to wear a tallit.
Our ushers are here to ensure that the proper Kavanah (worshipful concentration) and Kavod (respect) are maintained. Please cooperate with the ushers to insure an enjoyable worship experience for everyone.
Ushers are available to assist you should any issue arise.

Gift Shop

The Sisterhood Bridge Gift Shop is run by volunteers for the benefit of congregants, their families and friends. It carries a wonderful variety of Judaica to enhance your observances at home and at the Synagogue. The Gift Shop is open on Sunday mornings when Religious School is in session and by appointment with twenty-four hours notice. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please leave a message on the Gift Shop Voicemail Box at 773-868-5132 and your call will be returned promptly.

Coat Check

Manned Coat check is provided during the High Holy Days and for major events. The Coat Room is open but unattended at all other times.  As the room is not locked, Anshe Emet is not responsible for missing items.

Special Needs Information

Anshe Emet is ADA compliant. Ramps are located at the entrances on Pine Grove, from the parking lot and through the Hall of Memories. Designated lavatories are located in the Pine Grove lobby and across from the coatroom.

Policy on Scented Products

Please refrain from wearing scented products such as hair spray, perfume and cologne that may trigger reactions such as respiratory distress and headaches in members sensitive to such products.
